# Install or reinstall RouterOS CHR

MikroTik **Cloud Hosted Router (CHR)** uses a disk image for a hypervisor. The RouterOS ISO intended for x86 installation and a CHR image are two different distributions; mounting an ISO is not an equivalent CHR reinstallation procedure.

## Request reinstallation

For an existing CHR VPS, open a [ticket](/documentation/en/guides/how-to-open-a-support-ticket.md) specifying the service, desired version and licence constraints. The team confirms the available image and appropriate reprovisioning method.

Before the intervention:

* Export the configuration and keep useful backups outside the VPS.
* Note the network information and BGP, VPN or firewall settings to restore.
* Check the consequences of an instance change for your CHR licence.
* Specify the downtime window and data that can be erased.

The delivered version and restoration steps are confirmed for your request. This page does not prescribe an old version as a universal image.

## After delivery

Use the credentials provided for your service and immediately set your own secret. No shared password should be used as a reference login in the documentation.

Restore the configuration suited to the new instance and check interfaces, routes, exposed services and licences. Avoid importing an old configuration without checking interface names and current addresses.

CHR licence levels determine certain limitations. See the [official MikroTik documentation](https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/18350234/Cloud%2BHosted%2BRouter%2BCHR) for a compatible image and licence.
