# First steps in Plesk

Use the Plesk address and access details provided with your web hosting. Your subscription gives access to your websites’ features; it does not give administrator access to the physical server.

## Prepare a website

1. Open the list of your websites and domains.
2. Check that the relevant domain belongs to the correct subscription; add it if your quota and interface allow it.
3. Check the hosting settings and choose a PHP version suited to your application.
4. Upload the files to the document directory specified by Plesk, using the file manager or FTPS access.
5. Create the database and a dedicated database user if the website needs them.
6. Check the content and database connection before changing DNS.

For WordPress, WP Toolkit lets you prepare and manage the installation. Check your application’s extensions, themes and updates.

## HTTPS and email

Prepare the [DNS records](/documentation/en/guides/domains-and-dns.md) and SSL certificate. Let’s Encrypt must be able to validate the requested names; use the status displayed in Plesk to check issuance.

Create the necessary email mailboxes and use the settings provided by Plesk for email clients. See [the email guide](/documentation/en/guides/configure-email.md).

## Monitor your limits

Storage is shared between websites, email, databases, logs and local backups. Monitor quotas and mailbox storage. CPU and memory are maximum limits on a shared platform.

Check available backups before a major change. If a domain is missing, a limit has been reached or a feature is inaccessible, open a [ticket](/documentation/en/guides/how-to-open-a-support-ticket.md) with the domain and subscription.
